Time for a snack. Time for a story.
Get comfortable. Here is your blanket.
Here is your tea cozy. Hey, it's Amy.
I'm so glad you're here. Come, come.
We're on the fireside. Smuggle up story time, friends.
No junk food today, just some food for that fill your mind
along with your belly. No famine surrounded by excess.
Well, actually yes. Like crowd source wisdom, my
food I serve you today may be fake in its entirety.
Made-up imaginary. Have you heard the story of the
Emperor's new clothes? Well, you are in for a treat.
So in this fairy tale, originally Spanish actually from
1335, there's this emperor, a fancy king who's totally
obsessed with luck and good. Like he cares more about outfits
than actually ruling his Kingdom.
You know the type. If he had an Instagram, it would
just be mirror selfies and hashtags like Royal Fit Jack.
Then two sneaky tailors show up and say, hey, we made magical
clothes that only smart people can see.
Oh yeah, here we go. And of course you already know.
And the emperor's like, say less, I'm in.
So they pretend to sew him these invisible clouds, taking money,
money, money, sewing right in front of him what he can't see.
Just faking it. OK, now everyone around him, his
assistants, friends, even his people like in the Kingdom,
pretend they can see the clouds too.
Because no one wants to be the person who looks dumb.
Remember, only smart people can see the clouds.
Say that. So when the emperor walks
through town parading in this epic moment, work toward hyped
up wearing absolutely nothing. Yeah, for real.
Everyone's cheering. They're like, wow, iconic, so
bald. Then finally, of course it's a
little kid, finally a little kid who didn't get the Mama just
yells, he's naked. It never gets old and suddenly
everyone's like, Oh yeah, I see it now.
It's basically a story about how people will go along with
nonsense just to fit in or look smart or in today's world, like
we were talking about how the Internet keeps pretending bad
ideas are genius until someone points out the obvious.
Classic tale. Delusional emperors, scammy
tailors, full blown naked parade.
Back then it was a cautionary fable.
Now, oh it's a content strategy. Picture it today.
The emperor is not a ruler. OK, he's a verified influencer.
Oh yes, his empire is just a Kingdom of followers.
Brand deals and people commenting slay like it's
political support in the Kingdom. 2 scammers slide in
like yo I don't know we made invisible fashion for genius
level minds only and His Majesty goes perfect.
Finally something exclusive enough for my self esteem.
Launch day hits and boom, everybody's posting reaction
videos, doing breakdown threads, saying things like if you don't
see the clouds, you're just not enlightened yet.
So the ember's walking through town butt naked, but the
comments section slit. He's redefining vulnerability.
This is about transparency. Literally give this man a Ted
talk and somewhere out there one little kid somebody comments
he's naked and immediately gets down voted for negativity.
But you know what happens next? Everybody quietly edits their
posts like haha yeah I was joking too, because on the
Internet, nobody's ever wrong, they're just being ironic
retroactively. And uh, my friends, I hope your
teeth still warm. That's why The Emperor's New
Clothes isn't a fairy tale anymore.
It's the algorithm. Step one.
Pretend something meaningless is profound.
Step 2 very, very important get applause for it.
Step 3 sell merch. No hate, but honestly, in that
Amber posted today, he trend on TikTok under hashtag bold
transparency and square partnership with a skin care
brand before putting pants back on.
Speaking of missing pants, can you guess which film that brings
us to next? We're going to need more tea.
