1:39 The multiverse, which proposes that there are infinite

1:43 possibilities, unlimited, and various possible storylines and

1:47 endings existing side by side, allowing for shifts even between

3:08 friends, at least not early on. But if there is a multiverse, if

3:14 we make one now together. Bollywood verse.

3:19 Oh I like that. I see 2 characters with a bit in

3:23 common. Both grow up as sons in affluent

3:28 status conscious families where the father's word and family

3:32 honor reign supreme. Both crave parental approval,

3:38 which in turn both fall for women who do not fit deeply into

3:45 their families. Class respectability,

3:49 expectations and their romances become battlegrounds for social

3:55 hierarchy. Each must choose, right?

4:00 And that's when it all changes. Like they say, must choose to

4:05 protect the relationship and openly challenge the family's

4:10 status, or protect the status and sacrifice the relationship.

4:16 Torn between love and status, right?

4:20 Twinsies? Until that decision.

4:24 What about choices? Decisions that change the plot,

4:27 the direction, the reality, the ending into two very different

4:32 realities? Alternate endings, alternate

4:35 storylines, timelines, alternate realities in a multiverse shaped

4:41 by events and choices at any time.

4:44 The ball leavers. I might like that one even

4:47 better. We will still figure it out.

5:03 major trait how they love, act, cope, and grow diverges.

5:44 Devdis treats love as something to agonize over.

5:48 He professes intense love for Pero, but delays, rejects, and

5:58 Like I said, crucial moments and then clings to the idea of their

6:03 love while refusing to figure out or follow the practical,

6:09 obvious steps that would save it.

6:13 Let's get into one of my favorite things to talk about

6:15 and a character, and specifically a man, a Raul, is a

6:20 doer. He makes a decisive, risky

6:23 choice, marrying Angele, relocates abroad, works parents

6:29 and eventually participates and reconciling the family.

6:34 Devdas is, well, chronically passive.

6:40 He delays decisions, let's events happen to him, and when

6:45 things go wrong, he turns inward to drinking and self pity

6:50 instead of sustained constructive action.

6:56 And how do these lover boys treat and this affect their

7:01 lover partners lover girls? Raul gives Anjali long term

7:08 security, she gets a committed partner, a stable home and a

7:13 father for her child. And Devdess leaves Pero and

7:19 Shanji Mulki with unfulfilled love and depart.

7:24 Both women adapt and show strength with the structural

7:28 reality is that he gives neither of them a viable, respectful

7:34 shared future. Rahul learns to carry love and

7:41 duty together. Deftus has powerful emotional

7:46 presence and feelings that are not turned into consistent
